10 Comic Book Movies That Failed To Live Up To The Hype
8. Spider-Man 3 (2007)
It's strange to think that there was a time when people were actually excited about Spider-Man. You know, oblivious to the fact that director Sam Raimi was about to deliver one of the most bats*hit crazy superhero movies of all-time. Spider-Man 3 didn't necessarily fail to live up to the hype as much as it just, like, chewed the hype up, spat it out and did an unexpected dance number on its corpse. Truly, audiences had no idea what to think. Whilst at the time the sight of Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker clicking his fingers to a jazz number and saying things like "Now dig on this" proved to be relatively traumatising, in retrospect Spider-Man 3 isn't the terrible film that people seem intent on labelling it. There are flaws, of course (lots of them), but there is still a good amount to admire. For the most part, Raimi's third Spidey flick is an entertaining ride - not to forget all the great SFX. Spider-Man 2 was so good, however, and in being arguably the best superhero movie ever it ultimately doomed its successor to inferiority. Could they have done a better job with Spider-Man 3? Certainly. But at what point would it ever have been good enough?
