10 Comic Book Movies You Should Feel Guilty For Enjoying
10. Timecop (1994)
Many people forget that this film is a comic book adaptation, but indeed it is. The film is based on Time Cop, a story written by Mark Verheiden and drawn by Phil Hester and Chris Warner, which appeared in the anthology Dark Horse Comics. Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Timecop follows a futuristic police department whose job it is to prevent criminals from traveling back in time and changing the past for their own benefit. While the film fared well at the box office, it was a critical flop due to its nonsensical narrative, which didn't stick to its own time travel rules, and focused too much on propping up Van Dammes star credentials. And while the film was indeed a failure, it was an interesting failure. It seemingly achieved exactly what it set out to; time traveling and Van Damme doing split kicks. Certainly no cerebral rush, but honest entertainment nonetheless. Overall, this is one of the best of a small group of well-done Van Damme movies.
