10 Comic Book Movies You Should Feel Guilty For Enjoying
5. Josie And The Pussycats (2001)
Valerie (Rosario Dawson), Melody (Tara Reid), and, of course, Josie (Rachael Leigh Cook) have dreams of becoming rock stars. They are soon "discovered" by a band manager, who instantly delivers a recording contract with a major record label. It looks as if Josie And The Pussycats (as they call themselves) are on their way to the top. Before long, the girls have the number one single in the country, but they soon begin to suspect foul play. Realizing they are pawns in an evil attempt by the record label's maniacal CEO, to control the youth of America, the girls vow to clear their names and kick some major corporate butt while they're at it! On the face of it, Josie And The Pussycats might seem like a "girl power" film that's pandering to the lowest common denominator. However, the film is actually a fairly clever satire of all things pop-culture. People say that the movie becomes what it's ultimately making fun of. Well, that's sort of the idea. There is forced product placement everywhere, pointless celebrity cameos, and pop music so contrived that it makes One Direction look like The Beatles. Though, this is all part of the film's charm. Its no Spice World, but then, what is?
