10 Comic Book Spin-Offs Of Iconic Horror Franchises

1. Army Of Darkness

When it comes to the comic book spin-offs of popular movie characters, no other horror icon (barring classic movie monsters like Frankenstein and Dracula) gets about quite like The Evil Dead's Ashley J. Williams. During his lengthy absence from the screen, Ash was reborn in 2004 in Dynamite Comics' Army Of Darkness where, following a handful of modest solo adventures, he would grow to full on comics superstardom. Groovy.

When not crossing paths with Darkman, Danger Girl, Xena: Warrior Princess, Re-Animator, the Marvel Zombies (!) and so many more, Ash would appear in re-adaptations of the movies (The Evil Dead, from Dark Horse) and side-quels (Evil Dead 2, by Space Goat Publishing). Thus far, Ash's crowning comic book achievement is taking on both Freddy and Jason in the crossover story Freddy vs Jason vs Ash (based on the aborted movie) and its ridiculous sequel.

While Bruce Campbell's Ash is now back in live action as he deserves, his comic book counterpart carries on, showing no sign of slowing down in his old age. Nor, unlike the real Ash, does he show much sign of ageing, actually. Very groovy.
