10 Comic Book Spin-Offs Of Iconic Horror Franchises
2. Freddy Krueger
Of all the slasher movie villains, few lend themselves to comic book action like the Springwood Slasher, Freddy Krueger. Unlike the machete wielding Jason Voorhees or Michael with his carving knife, Freddy is more than just his blades, possessing a set of powers worthy of DC or Marvel supervillain-dom (did someone say a Freddy vs The Sandman crossover? No?)
Surprisingly, the funnybooks have had little to do with the demon. Aside from an adaptation of The Final Nightmare in 1991, Freddy's comic book appearances have largely been relegated to one-shots and the odd handful of issues here and there. Krueger's time with Marvel (!) lasted for two issues of Freddy Krueger's A Nightmare On Elm Street, in 1989, before four issues of Freddy's Nightmares with Trident Press.
Along with Jason and Leatherface, Freddy had a brief fling with Avatar Press (mostly terrible) before being shipped out to WildStorm Productions, for his most entertaining, and cinematic adventures to date. He didn't come alone, either....
