6. Kang the Conqueror
Kang began as Nathaniel Richards, a simple historian from the 30th century who discovered time travel technology hidden by one of his ancestors, Doctor Doom. Using this technology, and other technology from his time, he travelled back in time to become a conqueror. He travelled to ancient Egypt where he ruled for years as Pharaoh Rama-Tut until being forced from that time by the Fantastic Four. He then by accident travelled to the 40th century and used the opportunity to build himself armour using the more advanced technology of that time. He then used this technology in an attempt to rule an alternate 20th century timeline in the guise of the Scarlet Centurion. After being forced from that timeline by the Avengers, he returned to his own time and, using his resources, reinvented himself yet again as Kang the Conqueror. The earth of his 30th century time was dying, so he decided to once again travel back in time to conquer a more fertile 20th century earth. Due to the nature of time travel, Kang has run into multiple versions of himself from different dimensions and timelines. Some of these Kangs have even banded together to form the Council of Cross-Time Kangs. Like Iron Man, Kang does not have super powers but just highly advanced technology. He presents a difficult dilemma for Iron Man in particular, who has to face technology much more advanced than his own. This point was emphasised in Kangs appearance in the Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes animated series. The Avengers animated series also included an appearance by The Council of Cross-Time Kangs. Likelihood of appearing:
Kang the Conqueror is one of the Avengers most enduring villains along with Loki, Ultron and Baron Zemo and his Masters of Evil. From that perspective is it quite likely that Kang will appear as a villain in an Avengers film. Kang however does have one thing going against him appearing in an Avengers film; his history crosses over other film rights. His ancestry with the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom cannot be explored as the film rights are owned by Fox. His connections to Apocalypse of the X-Men universe and the Fantastic Four during his time as Pharaoh Rama-Tut also cannot be explored in film. The other key Avengers villains Ultron, Baron Zemo, and of course Loki, have direct connections with the Avengers and the Marvel Cinematic Universe and do not have the same restrictions as Kang.
