5. Ares the God of War
Ares is the immortal, malevolent god of war from the Greek pantheon. He lives to cause war and his own godly powers increase by the violence of others. His mere presence provokes people to fight and slaughter each other. It is because of Ares that the Amazons (Wonder Womans people) separated themselves from the rest of the world. Ares has a complicated relationship with Wonder Woman. He is one of Wonder Womans main antagonists, but he is also one of her most significant male relationships. In his most recent incarnation in comics, he is even portrayed as a father figure to Wonder Woman. Ares appeared in the Justice League Unlimited animated series and as the main antagonist in the critically acclaimed Wonder Woman animated film, expertly voiced by supervillain veteran Alfred Molina. If ever a Wonder Woman live action film is made, it will likely be heavily influenced by the animated film. Ares is a big part of the animated film and of Wonder Womans origins. He is also a powerful enough villain to threaten the Justice League and so could potentially be used as a villain in a Justice League film.
