10 Comic Stories You Should Read Before Phase 3 Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe
3. Captain Marvel Volume 1: In Pursuit Of Flight
Okay, so Captain Marvel is a hard one simply because Marvel Studios hasnt released much information about this film. Plus Captain Marvel is a complicated character, with a long convoluted history. With regards to the upcoming film, determining plot details becomes even more complicated as the Marvel version of Captain Marvel has had six different incarnations. According to the one-line plot summery released by Marvel Studios, it seems that they plan to use the most recent incarnation of the character, Carol Danvers, instead of the original version of the character, Captain Mar-Vell of the Kree Empire. Originally, Carol Danvers received her powers after being caught in an explosion with the Kree superhero, Captain Mar-Vell, and took the name Ms Marvel. Eventually, Captain Mar-Vell of the Kree dies of cancer. In 2012 as a part of the Marvel Now! initiative, Carol Danvers takes up the mantel of Captain Marvel, starring in her own title surprisingly called Captain Marvel. Written by Kelly Sue DeConnic and art by Dexter Soy and Emma Rios, Captain Marvel Volume 1: In Pursuit of Flight is story of Carol first adventure under the mantel of Captain Marvel. This title has been both critically and financially successful and will undoubtedly serve as a guide for the upcoming film. As a side note: while theres little doubt that Marvel Studios will streamline Carols origin, the films plot synopsis does mention the Kree Empire, which means that Mar-Vell could be making an appearance.
