Far too frequently do we see the cliché of someone suffering from a mental illness dropping their prescription meds into the trash. Suddenly, they are the happiest and most stable they’ve ever been, and life couldn’t get better for them.
If you are suffering from a mental illness, I cannot stress enough how much you should not follow this misconception. These pills are prescribed for a reason, and that reason is to make you better and help you live the life you deserve to be having.
You wouldn’t take the insulin from a diabetic, throw it away and tell them to go live their life. You wouldn’t tell a cancer patient to stop undergoing chemotherapy and tell them to go for a walk and things will get better. So why would you do it for someone with a mental illness?
