Most of us remember Superman: The Movie in a very positive light, and it is generally fondly remembered as the start of the superhero film. Unfortunately, Superman II experienced a very public showdown between the producers and the director, Richard Donner, which caused his exit from the picture. Since Superman and Superman II had been filmed back to back, when a new director (Richard Lester) came in and started making changes, it caused a number of inconsistencies throughout the film and left much of Donner's on the cutting room floor. Years later we saw Richard Donner's director's cut of the film, but it still wasn't the movie we were supposed to see. Superman II was a movie rife with a number of controversial moments, including Superman and Lois Lane getting their freak on, or Superman giving up his powers to be human only to almost instantly reverse the process, but it's one of the final moments of the film that continues to irk fans of the characters. Finding Lois at the Daily Planet and upset over finally learning his secret, Clark kisses her and erases her memory of the last few days using yet another of Superman's stupid powers that pop up occasionally. This proved to be the last straw in a movie full of controversial moments, and remains a debated issue among fans.
