The Dark Knight Rises featured a number of controversial moments that rubbed both fans off the comic and the various film versions of Batman the wrong way. The 8-year gap in story, a few inconsistencies and continuity errors that fans loved to argue about, and a last minute twist that fell flat (face it, we all knew John Blake was going to be some kind of a Robin). But it was the finale of the film that created the most controversy and set fans against each other. Batman seemingly sacrifices his life to save Gotham City from a nuclear bomb, leaving the keepers of his secret identity to mourn while an untrained John Blake readies to potentially take over for the Batman. Everything is all well and good, until that final scene of the movie shows Alfred on his annual vacation, where the fantasy he had described before happens in front of him, with Bruce Wayne appearing at the cafe with Selina Kyle. Some fans felt it neutered the sacrifice, some assumed it was only another fantasy of Alfred's, and others thought it was the perfect ending to a perfect trilogy. Cue online type-fighting and bat-based name-calling.
