3. Loki's Avengers Initiative
The Avengers has been one of the biggest films of 2012, and whilst we can all agree it was fairly amazing there were a few weak points that the film did not address. One of the largest of these concerns Loki's actual motives. His reasons for targeting Earth are never fully addressed, and whilst it's obvious why it has to be set on Earth, it seems odd for him to target us. A possible reason is because of Thors strong emotional attachment to earth, but it still doesn't explain his end goal. What exactly was he aiming to do? Well there is a theory that helps to put some weight behind his mischievous plot. The gist of it relies on Loki creating the perfect Xanatos Gambit (Where no matter what he will win). It suggests that over the course of the film, everything that happened was part of Lokis master plan. Despite seemingly being beaten it suggests that in the end he got one over the Avengers and accomplished everything he set out to do, primarily being brought back to Asgard. You may have seen the post-credits sequence teasing Thanos as a future villain. This heavily suggested that he was part of Lokis plan and may have been the one to help him plot. Now I may be wrong, but does it not look as if he were smiling during this short clip? Implying his plan is working. Now you may wonder why on earth Loki would wish to go back to Asgard. The clue for this may have been hidden within Thor. In the vault there is a glimpse and you'll miss it item. The Infinity Gauntlet. This is an item heavily associated with Thanos himself, and may be what he is after. By Loki getting arrested(?) he is in a prime position to acquire the Gauntlet. This all sets up the sequels nicely without being in your face, á la Iron Man 2. I may question whether he would really have had to go to such lengths to achieve his end goal, but maybe he just wanted to make sure everyone knew about it. This theory is a bit different from the other ones included on the list, as it is the only one that will possibly be proven correct/incorrect in the next few years. It is entirely possible that everything described will come true in the coming wave of Marvel films, but then again it could be completely off the mark.
