6. Thelma and Louise

Ridley Scott's directorial career is extremely varied and no film in his canon represents this better than Thelma and Louise. Scott was known more for dark and cerebral sci-fi movies like Alien and Blade Runner but also shines outside of his comfort zone. The direction is efficient and sets just the perfect pace for the movie but the lead performances by Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis are easily the highlight. They have incredibly good chemistry together which is a make or break detail for any road movie. The way that the audience is allowed to see their friendship grow throughout the movie adds emotional resonance which makes the ending that much more tragic. One other thing that makes the story more than just a normal road movie is the feminist subtext that pervades throughout and helped Thelma and Louise to become a pop-culture staple since its release.
