7. Little Miss Sunshine

Steve Carell gives the best performance of his career in this movie while Alan Arkin completely steals every scene he's in, which eventually earned him an Oscar for best supporting actor. The best thing about Little Miss Sunshine is the mood of the story and the interplay between the cast. The plot is so odd that the movie seems like it would be a straight comedy but instead goes in a much bolder direction and is much better for it. The comedy in the film is hilarious but the drama is where it really shines. It's very touching to watch this strange and mismatched group of people try to relate to each other. This allows the cast to share some truly great moments together but also adds a layer of warmth that offsets the oddball nature of everything brilliantly.
