10 Craziest Things That Have Been Made Into Movies
4. A Theme Park Ride - Pirates Of The Caribbean
When the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise returns in 2017 with Dead Men Tell No Tales it has a hard job. After an overblown finale to the original trilogy and a totally uninspiring fourth entry that failed to spark a new run, the franchise has really lost its way. It's not as hard, however, as the first film's even more difficult task. The notion of Disney bringing us a resurrection of the pirate genre with a fantastical twist had been around for years before, pre-production stretching through the nineties, but once super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer the idea evolved to be much more heavily inspired by the theme park ride; the basic idea for Curse Of The Black Pearl, particularly the cursed treasure, comes directly for the ride's narration Other films have been based on theme parks, but these could never escape the rails, falling into obscurity. Pirates Of The Caribbean, however, managed to make something distinct, thanks in part to shunning the source. You see, the film was originally going to contain more overt references to its origins, but both Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, realising this sort brand recognition would only hurt the film, toned it down so the film could stand on its own sea legs. It was so successful that following the film's release, the ride was redesigned so it could feature Captain Jack and the rest of the stars.
