10 Crazy Details Hidden In Horror Movies
9. Midsommar - Flower Crown
Midsommar is, like every Ari Aster joint, a film made to be dissected (just like almost all of its unfortunate cast members). The folk horror is stuffed to the bloody gills with subtle details designed to tip the viewer off to later fates in store for the central group of doomed students who blunder into a bizarre Swedish cult.
The most prominent details dotted throughout the film to tip off viewers come in the form of murals, one of which is shown prior to the opening credits and details much of the movie’s plot, the rest of which are glimpsed during the runtime and forewarn us of its darker turns.
There are, however, smaller and more subtle touches that appear in the film and may be even less obvious without repeat viewings.
Look closely during the opening scene - that is, if you can stop hiding behind your fingers and being overwhelmed by the dread of the film’s oppressive atmosphere.
Noticing anything odd about the décor? Maybe the huge vase of flowers sitting above a photo of Dani? Arranged to look like a dramatic hat over her head - or a huge flower crown, say?
Not unlike the one she is awarded later, for the low, low price of… Er, the life of her boyfriend and his mates.
