10 Crazy Details Hidden In Horror Movies

8. Se7en - Notebooks

Okay, so this one slides out of the realms of commitment and into creepy territory, but Se7en’s designers didn’t go through all this effort for the film to be left off this list - and frankly, after researching this entry, we’re a little worried about what they’ll do if we forget their fine work.

The creepy killer John Doe, played by Kevin Spacey, doesn’t appear until the explosive and unexpected ending of David Fincher’s 1995 masterpiece. However, throughout the film the audience has been given a few choice insights into the workings of his twisted mind, and the results have not been pretty.

Most of this insight comes in the form of notebooks, obsessively compiled and filled with his psychotic ramblings, and glimpsed for brief, out-of-focus moments during the film’s iconic opening credits and in an early, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene where his hideout is located by investigating officers.

And all those identical notebooks lining the walls behind the actors? They’re actually full of in-character insanity straight from the mind of John Doe via two incredibly committed designers.

The duo spent hours filling the notebooks with meticulous, scary-convincing unhinged writing, all for what they knew would amount to a few seconds of screen time in the finished film.

Cathal Gunning hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
