7. X-Files: I Want To Believe
Having Mulder and Scully interrogate Billy Connolly for the best part of two hours may not have been the first thing that came to mind upon hearing about a sequel to the 1998 X- Files movie, but it nevertheless left audiences with something to mull over on their way home. Namely, what the hell was going on in that post-credits scene? Arriving ten years after the original, the film may have lacked urgency but it didn't necessarily close the door on future investigations. Mulder was lucky to be alive and, now working as a physician, Scully's faith in humanity was shaken but still intact. All very dramatic but, as they might say, nothing conclusive. Yet there was something intriguing hidden away in the end-credits. We follow a helicopter's POV across the ocean as it hover above a row boat. The couple inside, although wearing their swimsuits, are awfully familiar- and are clearly heading for a nearby tropical island. Just before we fade to black, they look up and
wave. But why? Is this goodbye? The show's writer Chris Carter has expressed an interest in developing the franchise, providing there is ''still a demand for it''. Until then, Dana and Fox remain stuck on that island, waiting for the sequel that may never arrive...
