4. Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash Was Almost A Bizarre Crossover Sequel That Actually Happened

Sometimes you hear about an idea for a movie sequel and it sounds like the stuff of fan-fiction - and not very good fan-fiction at that.

Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash, a follow-up to various films which would have had Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Ash from the Evil Dead franchise battling to the death, well and truly falls under that banner, because what?

Bizarre as it might sound to anyone who is familiar with any of the characters mentioned in the film's proposed title, there was a genuine point in cinematic history where a bunch of high-paid individuals sat around and considered green-lighting the mother of all versus movies. A guy named Jeff Katz, who later went on to produce Snakes on a Plane, proposed it as a film treatment, and Hollywood looked at his treatment and said: "Okay, yeah, this is interesting."

The man who that put a stop to it? Sam Raimi, writer and director of the Evil Dead movies. Clearly Raimi, who has a brain, realised that Ash wouldn't have felt at home in the company of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, and refused to sign off on the project.

It was, however, made into a six-part comic book series, which is something that legitimately exists for you to purchase. Strange old world, this.
