10 Crazy X-Men Ideas Fox Had Before Marvel Got The Rights Back

The New Mutants was originally delayed by Fox when they decided reshoots were needed to change the movie's tone and add some more characters. Due to the Disney/Fox merger, those never ended up taking place, and now the movie (which has been postponed several times since) is coming out this August in its original form.

Fans have questioned why it hasn't been put straight on Disney+, but an old Fox deal with HBO means that cable service has exclusive rights to the film on the small screen, hence why it's still coming to cinemas.

Regardless of what version of The New Mutants Fox planned to release, director Josh Boone has confirmed that he had an entire trilogy planned, and that a post-credits scene introducing a villainous take on Sunspot's father played by Antonio Banderas never ended up being shot. Had this merger not taken place, it seems fans would have been in store for a series of films revolving around this group.

It wasn't meant to be, though, and The New Mutants will now be a one and done standalone feature.
