10 Creepiest Alfred Hitchcock Movie Moments

10. The Shower Scene In Psycho

Let's face it: the shower scene in Psycho (1960) is a hot topic for discussion amongst horror movie fans even today. Not only because of the shocking stabbing scene, but also because Janet Leigh, the supposed star of this particular Hitchcock film, is killed off within hours of her arriving at the motel where murdering antagonist Norman Bates is getting crazier and crazier. Critics since have admired Hitchcock's decision to kill off the star so early in the film. So why is this scene so scary? Well, bar the inevitable sense that something awful is about to happen while Janet enjoys her shower (some might say a little too much), it's the noise. You know, that famous stabbing noise created by high staccato strings? Stab stab stab, scream, longer scream, EE EE EE EE - and she's dead. The scene from first stab to last is no more than thirty seconds; but it's enough to leave you feeling pretty vulnerable next time you take a shower.
