10 Creepiest Children In Horror Movies

1. The Ring (2002)

Village Of The Damned 1995 John Carpenter
DreamWorks Pictures

Named ‘Sadako’ in the Japanese original, ‘Samara’ manages to be nightmare inducing while showing very little violence and very little of her appearance. A lot is left to your imagination as you are presented with the aftermath of her attacks rather than witnessing them.

The opening of the film sets the scene with the creepy video and ghost story. It then jumps to Katie’s horrifying face as a jump scare, so you are terrified as to what she could have seen that caused her to die looking like that. The film sets up Samara’s backstory, so you gradually find out more about her and her motives.

She is interviewed in the psychiatrist videos where she says she cannot control her ability to psychically etch mental images into surfaces and minds. The film is interspersed with ghostly jump scares where Samara appears suddenly, face hidden by her wet, black hair. Finding out that she sent her parents and their horses mad is frightening as there is no explanation for her powers or where she came from.

Your short reprieve where you think Rachel has finally stopped her is cut short by young Aidan’s chilling revelation that she has set her free. Her crawl out of the television to kill Noah is an amazing scene as it is literally breaking the fourth wall, so you feel like you are not even safe just watching her on the screen.
