Young Regan MacNeil is a pretty run-of-the-mill 12-year-old little girl; sweet, shy and attached to her mother. Oh except for one little thing, a demon has taken up residence in her body and is causing quite a bit of havoc. Her mother, an actress, Chris (Ellen Burstyn), a nonbeliever first turns to scientists and doctors to try to cure her little girl until she ultimately seeks the help of Father Merrin (Max von Sydow). As Regan begins to get worse she starts to exhibit some rather disturbing behavior, to say the least. We see her spasming on her bed before she pleads with a room full of doctors to have sexual intercourse with her. She vomits (pea soup) in the face of a priest, while cursing like a sailor. As the titular exorcism ensues we watch her head spin around in a complete 360. We watch her break her shackles and levitate from the bed. She masturbates with a crucifix and shoves her mother's face into her bloody crotch. And of course who could ever forget the infamous crab-walk down the steps? If you've never seen The Exorcist, you really should. Just be prepared to have little Regan haunting your nightmares for a few days.
