We know that Esther isn't technically a child shes actually an tremendously violent 33-year-old woman who suffers from hypopituitarism who enjoys posing as a little girl and killing people but for all intents and purposes, shes essentially a kid in Orphan. And right away we know that something about her is a little... off. We learn that she has absconded from an Estonian mental hospital where she is known to have killed several people. Basically, her schtick is posing as an orphan and thus having access to the foster system. Though whenever anyone begins to suspect anything, Esther makes sure to take care of them in grisly fashion. Played by Isabelle Fuhrman, her performance here is one of pure brutality. Her intense stare gets more of her character across than any dialogue ever could, and her actions are just as sadistic as they are appalling. The death of Esther is a great relief to the audience and could probably make anyone not want to adopt children ever again.
