For as long as the zombie genre has been stumbling onto our screens, the trope of the one or few infected survivors has persisted. And for good reason, if you think about it. These characters are almost always done for, serving as a ticking time bomb of action, horror or incredible emotion.
In the George A. Romero pictures of old, the zombification process is something that could take a day or so to set in, really building the impending dread to come. But as we fast forward to the zombie explosion in the early to mid-2000s, the turns have become more fast-paced and explosive.
This is something we all have Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later to thank for. And yes, they might be called "infected", but they are zombies and it is a zombie film.
But this begs the question: what are the creepiest zombie transformations to ever be depicted on screen? From the fact to the slow, or the ones we barely see coming here is a list of the top 10. But as a rule here, the person or creature in question has to been seen alive before the turn takes place.
