The original Dawn of the Dead got so much right and really cemented George A. Romero as the king of the zombies to pretty much everyone. Zack Snyder's remake in 2004 took this premise and ramped it up to eleven, combining the original Romero script with the running terrors from Boyle's take on the gene.

With runners, this meant there was less time to give the zombies character, leaving them as a mindless horde just trying to feed on whatever they could find, but for some reason, not dogs. Which actually plays into the fate of one Andy.

As the main group are held up over in the mall, he is all alone in his gunshop with only a whiteboard to communicate with Kenneth. Using this for target practice and chess it works out for a while, but once Andy is bitten, the whiteboard lets Kenneth know that Andy is gone and only his dead husk remains.
