8. Gilderoy Lockhart from Harry Potter And Chamber of Secrets
Lockhart is a brash, brazen conman in Chamber of Secrets, but he wasn't a 'bad guy' really. So he lied about his adventures and couldn't save Ginny or protect Harry, how many totally competant wizards have failed to do these things? Those pesky kids. Lockhart just wanted to get by, riding the waves of being a famous wizard and singing autographs. Yes, he lied, but let's not forget he erased people's memories. Basically, the man strolling down the hallways of Hogwarts just smiling at his fans would erase your memory in a heartbeart if it meant personal gain. So why does he go on to kill people? Tragically, a memory charm backfires during Chamber of Secrets and he completely erases his own memory which he never fully recovers from. There's even a post-credit sequence (which I previously had zero idea existed) showing Lockhart releases a new book titled 'Who Am I?' So what happens to him past a brief appearance in Order of the Phoenix? Struggling to regain who he was, Lockhart digs up the truth on himself, learns how he erased people's memories and can't cope, leading to him lashing out should anyone else find out this information. On the plus side, if he did kill anyone, I bet he'd write a great book about it.
