10 Creepy Similarities Between Nolan And Burton’s Batman Movies

9. There€™s A Major Theory That Makes A Key Plot Point A Vision

One of the biggest divergences from the accepted continuity in Batman was that it wasn€™t Joe Chill who killed Bruce€™s parents, but Jack Napier (that film's Joker). Managing to make a story that explores Batman€™s origins without having to go down what is now the standard show-and-tell route is retrospectively refreshing, but some fans would say it's a different beast. A theory that regularly does the rounds is that the Joker is nothing special; Bruce does this with every criminal he faces, transposing their likeness and mannerisms on the memory of his killer (quite possibly Joe Chill), Memento-style, so he can bring them to justice. Skewed imaginings fuelled by grief pop up in another, more recent Batman theory. Likely the same group of fans suggest that at the end of The Dark Knight Rises, Alfred is only imagining seeing his old friend alive, unable to accept his loss. Both have some logic within the movie world, using existing motivations as their emotional basis. Unfortunately that€™s all they use. There€™s nothing more concrete and while it€™s great the characterisation in both films is strong enough to spawn these ideas, they€™re ultimately hokum.
