4. The Wolf Of Wall Street Shines A Light On How Jordan Belfort Played Wall Street

Al Pacino Serpico
Paramount

Another modern classic, this Scorsese film tells the story of stockbroker Jordan Belfort and how he corrupted Wall Street to become a mega millionaire. The film is loud, drug filled, pumped up and loaded with excess, and has become just as critical to Scorsese’s canon as the likes of Taxi Driver and Goodfellas.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Belfort in what would be a career best performance for almost any other actor: working with Scorsese he manages to play his part in a film rich in black humour. The cast of characters are expertly written and feature the kinds of oddball, dark and insane exaggerated personalities that turn this film into something far larger than life and representative of Belfort’s sheer riches.

Jordan Belfort is portrayed as a love rat, over-the-top, addict to the excess of life, but surprisingly the man himself praised the accuracy in the insanity of the film. It’s crime films like this that make you realise how wild the criminal world can be, the film is so fucked up but it’s true.
