10 Criminally Low IMDb Movie Ratings You Won’t Believe

1. Bambi

IMDb Rating: 7.4

An 8.0 score is generally taken as the measure of classic. Now, obviously their "Classic" label on home releases is little more than a marketing tool, but do you know how far through Disney's illustrious back catalogue you have to work on IMDb before you come across a film that passes that barrier? Beauty And The Beast, the animation studio's thirtieth film. According to the world's biggest film reference, it took Disney fifty years to make a unquestionably great movie.

Obviously, the reason only movies that are part of the studio's nineties renaissance get beyond the 8.0 rating (Aladdin and The Lion King also pass muster) is due to the specific places they hold in Generation X's, the dominant voice on the internet, heart, but it's shocking a more established classic can't get in on the love.

Of course, there's plenty of so-called Disney classics that don't live up to their nostalgic reputations - Sleeping Beauty has Maleficent and a unique visual style, but spends most of its time on slapstick, and the Jungle Book squanders its fun songs with a total lack of narrative impetus - but there's plenty more that do, showcasing the company's ability to not only make timeless family entertainment, but also great art. In that respect, Bambi stands out as the studio's most underrated feature.

Everyone knows about death of the deer prince's mother (and pretends to have cried at it growing up), but the whole film is a beauty, with hand-painted forests serving as an always-gorgeous backdrop to a well observed coming-of-age tale. Yet, with a 7.4, it sits as decidedly middle-of-the-road for the studio.

What other great movies are incredibly underrated on IMDb? Are any of the scores on this list on the money? Have your say down in the comments.
