10 Most Cringeworthy Moments In The Harry Potter Movies
9. The Yule Ball - Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
In the book, the Yule Ball served as one of the undeniable highlights of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - a key moment for pretty much all of the major characters, who had to grow up and get to grips with things like "dancing" and, uh, "dancing." The Yule Ball is somewhat lovingly rendered on the big screen, but there are cringe moments ahoy. Take, for example, the way that we get to glimpse each couple taking to the dance floor, as the student body collectively claps. And then the cringeworthy kicker comes: the Yule Ball descends into some kind of rave. Seriously. After the formalities are over, we hone in on a rock band called The Weird Sisters - the lead singer of which, Myron Wagtail, is played by Pulp's Jarvis Cocker - as the Hogwarts massive descend to moshing about on the dancefloor like they've just used the MDMA charm on overdrive. This is a weird thing to see, given the way that Hogwarts has been established thus far, and that we can't imagine any of the characters in Harry Potter actually behaving like this. The lyrics ("Put your hands up in the air/Like an ogre just don't care") don't help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9ZzCOotJ4o
