10 Critically Reviled Action-Horror Movies (That Weren't Actually That Bad)
1. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The League of Extraordinary Gentleman is one of the most unique comic books ever written and will eventually make for a great movie. While the 2003 adaptation of the film is in no way accurate to the source material, that doesn't mean the film isn't a crazy, fun ride!
The League of Extraordinary Gentleman is an Avengers like team made up of famous literary characters, played by actors born for the roles.
Sean Connery makes for a great Alan Quatermain - balancing being a grizzled veteran who leads the team, and still being able manage the action sequences. The other highlight of the team is Mr Hyde, who is the muscle for all the battles, and possibly the most eccentric figure of the lot.
The story can be a bit jumbled at time, and is in no way a totally accurate representation of Alan Moore's original work. But the story manages to seamlessly weave all of these characters together, and retains much of the heart of the series.
The action is very standard for the 2003 release, but the design of the film really holds up, keeping the style of Moore's novel, that contains Victorian era technology mixed with sci-fi goodness.
The film was panned upon release, and is often the film that is said to have made Sean Connery retire - but this seems an unfair analysis when you look at just how much it got right about the franchise.
