10 Critically-Reviled Comic Book Movies (That Weren't Actually That Bad)

8. Thor: The Dark World

Critics Consensus: "It may not be the finest film to come from the Marvel Universe, but Thor: The Dark World still offers plenty of the humor and high-stakes action that fans have come to expect."

One of only two films on this list to boast a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Thor: The Dark World just scrapes itself out of the "rotten" territory because of the magic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not even that's enough to save it from being widely regarded as one of the - if not the - weakest offerings in the MCU.

However, the truth is that it's not the worst movie in the MCU (that honor goes to Iron Man 2). It's by no means a great film but it's also not the awful slog that we've all made it out to be over the past seven years.

It's definitely darker than it needs to be and it makes a poor use of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, but it's an admirable experiment that yields results that are, if nothing else, visually impressive. The whole Thor franchise experimented with different tones and even though this middle instalment wasn't as successful as the others, it's still a high-stakes fantasy flick worth your time. And, in spite of the criticisms, the MCU would be incomplete without it.
