10 Criticisms Of The Amazing Spider-Man Films That Are Completely Unfair

1. We Should Have Seen The End of The Rhino Fight

One last criticism of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that completely misses the point is that we did not see the whole fight against the Rhino at the end of the film. In isolation, it makes sense that fans would want to see the entire fight between Spider-Man and one of his most iconic villains. But within the context of the film, this wasn't necessary. In fact, it would have actually defeated the entire purpose of that scene.

Think about it. The film shows Peter getting depressed after Gwen's death. He spends several months without being Spider-Man, and then Aunt May helps him to see how he can move past his grief. He listens to Gwen's graduation speech, and then he finds the motivation to continue being Spider-Man.

The final fight against the Rhino isn't about the action. It's not about the excitement or the drama. It's about Peter moving past his grief and continuing to be the saviour of the people of New York. The entire point of the scene would have fallen flat if we had actually seen the end of the action. The fact that the film ends in the middle of the action is how it (successfully) conveys the idea that Peter has not just come back for one final fight, but will continuing being Spider-Man again from now on.
