10 Cult Horror Films With Memorable Titles

1. Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

images Whatever happened to Baby Jane indeed. She's a whacked out, washed up ex child star with a massive booze problem and evil intentions towards her paralysed sister who eventually became more famous than her in the world of show business. Knowing full well that Blanche wants to put her into an institution for her increasingly erratic behaviour, Jane wages a campaign of terror against her sister - withholding food and serving her up a rat and on one occasion - Blanche's own pet bird. As the horrors escalate, Jane becomes intent on a revival of her 'career' which leads to grotesque scenes of her singing "I've Written a Letter to Daddy" while dressed as a young girl. As Jane's madness deepens along with Blanche's Isolation, what will become of the two sisters? Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? is a thrilling ride of a film with the dynamics between the sisters propelling it on. Bette Davis is positively repulsive in the film - swinging between rampant insanity on one level and all too knowing slyness on the next. Her bad behaviour reaches such portions that we shout at the film: "Comeuppance! Comeuppance! Give her her comeuppance!". You will be glued to the screen by Jane's increasing sadism towards her sister. The two actresses have a real spark between them that makes the film authentic. You will be utterly engrossed by this torpid psychodrama.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
