10 Cult Horror Films With Memorable Titles

children shouldnt play with dead things Italian and Japanese films are definitely the world leaders in the memorable movie title stakes. However, there have been some interesting little titles from American and UK cinema. An interesting title does not necessarily mean a good film. A lot of the films on my list are in fact barely tolerable and their title is the only good thing about them. However, I am continuing in my usual vein to present cult movies to anyone who views my writing. In fact, I feel it is my duty to provoke debate and awareness about low brow, low budget, cult cinema in a world surrounded by anodyne Hollywood mulch. Some of these films may be trash - but like a dog returning to its vomit, I feel compelled to review them. I must be the world's biggest masochist. But I love it!

10. Stuff Stephanie In The Incinerator (1989)

51M313BDZML This is a Troma movie. Enough said. However Troma do come up with some good film titles - such as Surf Nazis Must Die and Redneck Zombies. This has to rank as one of their finest titles but it is a total misnomer - at no time does Stephanie get even close to being shoved in an incinerator. Instead we have Paul - a mechanic - taken hostage by two guards and brought to a mansion where he meets Stephanie, who acts like she knows him. There is also a guy in drag called Roberta who asks Paul if she can watch him and Stephanie having sex. In disgust, Paul tries to escape but finds himself flummoxed. Roberta disappears and Paul develops sexual feelings for Stephanie, so they get it on. Roberta reappears again and takes them captive - in particular, she wants to have sex with Paul who outright refuses. However the threat of death to Stephanie from Roberta changes his mind and he does the ghastly deed. Afterwards Stephanie laughs and says 'You can stop now Roberta'. Apparently Stephanie is Casey and Paul is Jared - a rich married couple who indulge in dodgy sexual games for thrills. A confusing murder plan that goes balls up finishes the film. I would like to stand up and commend Troma and the makers of the film, but I simply cannot do that. The script is dire, the acting woeful, the pacing of the film terrible and the special effects simply lame. The plot is very confusing and hard to follow. The intent was obviously to create a black comedy but you won't be laughing at the storyline, you will be sniggering at the film itself and all of its inadequacies - particularly if you watch it after a beer or two. The film is pure 1980s cheese and although it doesn't go all gory on you like most Troma films do, it is unmistakably an addition to the Troma stable of films. It's a pity it doesn't have more gore in it. It might have made the film more bearable.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
