10 Cult Horror Films With Memorable Titles

6. Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things (1971)

sometimes-aunt-martha-poster Two criminals - Stanley and Paul - flee Baltimore and decide to keep a low profile in Miami. Paul is posing as Stanley's Aunt Martha and dons a wig and women's clothes. The pair have an implied homosexual relationship. Stanley is a dyed in the wool hippie who drives a very colourful van, has a massive coke problem and picks up all the laydeez. When he brings them home, Paul goes berserk and murders them, so yes, Aunt Martha lives up to the title and does dreadful things. A definite film for lovers of exploitation movies - Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things - is a hoot from beginning to end. If you have ever enjoyed the campness of an HG Lewis film, you will enjoy this one. The two leads are marvellous in their roles and provide a lot of humour when they are interacting with each other. The dynamics of their relationship are weird - Paul is a loner with no friends and leads an hermetic lifestyle while Stanley is living a counter culture dissolute lifestyle. Paul is an old queen who gets hysterical when Stanley brings women back to the home. This leads to entertaining chaos in the film. If you like John Waters, this B Movie gem will be right up your alley.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
