10 Cult Horror Films With Memorable Titles

7. I Dismember Mama (1972)

i die Also known as Poor Albert and Little Annie, the title of the film is a pun on the title of a famous play - I Remember Mama - by John van Druyten. I think I Dismember Mama is quite a funny title in a sleazy psychotronic kind of way. Albert was institutionalised after he tried to kill his haughty, snobby mother. He has been released and is determined to send her properly to her maker this time - even if he has to kill others to get to her. Along the way he befriends a young girl called Annie. Some dodgy themes are going on here - with Albert wanting to spirit away and marry little Annie because she is 'pure'. That is a very sleazy and paedophiliac notion, but thankfully it is not delved into very deeply by the film makers. Furthermore there are only three kills in the movie and not a lot of dismembering. It is quite a downbeat affair - its low budget gives it a grimy and authentic 70s exploitation feel that will leave you feeling grubby after watching it. Zooey Hall does a good job of portraying Albert but the rest of the acting is amateurish. Ultimately, the film fails to live up to the greatness of its title, but for 70s trash fans - you may derive a little bit of enjoyment from this film.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
