10 Dangerous Movie Scenes Audiences Refused To Believe Were Faked

4. Nova Rides On Maurice's Back - War For The Planet Of The Apes

The recent Planet of the Apes trilogy is a mesmerising showcase for Peter Jackson's VFX outfit Wētā FX, which has become the gold standard for jaw-droppingly photorealistic recreations of living things.

And perhaps the single most impressive creation in Wētā's entire back catalogue? The Apes trilogy's beloved Orangutan Maurice (Karin Konoval), who is rendered in such stunning detail as to be basically indistinguishable from the real deal.

This proves especially head-spinning in the trilogy's concluding chapter, where Maurice spends much of the movie interacting with a mute human girl, Nova (Amiah Miller).

Now, everything in our logical thought processes tells us that the shots of Nova standing next to Maurice and riding on his back are totally fake, and yet, they absolutely pass the sniff test and fly clear over the uncanny valley.

We know that no $150 million movie is ever going to risk pairing an actor - especially a child - with a real-life animal, no matter how well-trained they might be.

But Wētā's illusion is so impressively plausible that folks can't really be blamed for believing that at least some shots saw actress Karin Konoval interacting with a real Orangutan.
