10 Dark Moments In Disney Animated Films
9. Sid's Toys - Toy Story (1995)
Toy Story was a ground-breaking movie, as it was the first animated film to be made entirely on a computer, as well as been the cinematic debut of the now legendary animated studio Pixar.
The actual premise of toys being alive when the humans aren't around is a concept that raises multiple questions in itself, but by far the darkest scene comes in the form of Andy's neighbour Sid.
For those unaware, Sid was made up to be the stereotypical problem child who, instead of playing with his toys normally, he made bizarre fusions of his toys and his younger sisters, resulting in a fishing rod with legs, a car with human limbs, and the terrifying eight-legged baby. This might not be a major issue, were the toys not sentient in this universe, implying a seriously messed up process happened to these poor creatures.
To be fair, the toys themselves are not evil as they appear, and actually mend some toys Sid was working on, and also, in Sid's defence, he is completely unaware that the toys are sentient. Nonetheless, the implication that these toys have to endure a potentially torturous existence as mutants is a dark enough concept.
Another dark aspect of this scenario has come to light in recent analyses, where it does appear that Sid lives in a negligent household, and the fact that he is showing ingenuity and skills at a young age could have lined him up for a career in engineering when he was older.
