5. Hard To Swallow - The Mule
Angus Sampson co-writes, co-directs and stars in The Mule, a dark comedy about a man named Ray Jenkins who agrees to smuggle a load of heroin from Thailand back to Australia in his stomach, then finds himself desperately holding in going to the toilet after he's arrested and detained on his return. A film ostensibly about a man trying not to go for a poo might have been fair game for 90 minutes of Adam Sandler's level of low-brow childish humour, but fortunately Sampson makes more of the material, while Hugo Weaving is fantastic as an aggressive, hardened detective trying to literally get it out of his suspect. After several days have passed Jenkins can't hold it in any longer and out come the drug-filled condoms - fortunately the policeman on guard duty is fast asleep, so one by one he swallows the twenty poo-soaked condoms once again. If there's one scene from the year you shouldn't watch whilst eating then this is it.
