1. Broadchurch
Last but not least, it's David's most successful post-
Doctor Who role to date which saw him embroiled in one of the biggest murder mysteries in TV history. Well, two of them.
Broadchurch, created by
Doctor Who and
Torchwood writer Chris Chibnall, aired to critical acclaim back in 2013 as the ensuing drama surrounding the sudden death of Danny Latimer kept the nation on the edge of their seats. Guiding viewers through the investigation as DI Alec Hardy, who was harbouring a few secrets of his own, David formed one of the most formidable on screen partnerships of recent years as he joined forces with BAFTA winning actress Olivia Colman as Ellie Miller to discover the truth about the young boy's untimely demise. The show proved to be so popular that Fox attempted to capitalise on its success across the pond by casting David as Detective Emmett Carver in a US remake,
Gracepoint. Although it was cancelled after just one season, it's currently being shown on ITV Encore in the UK so it's something to tide you over until
Broadchurch Series 3, at least. You'll have to watch it a few times, though, since Hardy and Miller won't be back on our screens until 2016...
