10 David Tennant Performances You Have To See

7. Recovery

Tumblr Lok8gkk1md1qfeznp Gif David hasn't just been paying his dramatic dues on the big screen, you know. He became an honorary household name for his popular portrayal of the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who (but you already know that!) and he still somehow found the time to appear in other dramas admist his coveted commitment to defending the Universe. One of these was the BBC's hard hitting drama Recovery which he starred in alongside Sarah Parish, who Doctor Who fans will recognise as the Empress of the Racnoss from the show's 2006 Christmas Special, The Runaway Bride. You'll be pleased to hear that she doesn't play a scheming spider in this as she takes on the harrowing role of David's on screen wife, Tricia, who struggles to keep their family together when her husband, Alan, suffers a serious personality-changing brain injury in a road accident. It's a powerful portrait about families recovering from a personal tragedy that was lauded by critics as "perhaps the best thing David Tennant has ever done" upon its televisual premiere back in 2007. It's not an easy watch but one which definitely leaves a lasting impression.
