5. Blackpool
Well, David certainly does like working with his
Doctor Who co-stars, doesn't he!? Technically speaking, he made
Blackpool before he stepped about the TARDIS (timey-wimey!), so it's purely coincidental that he shared the screen with David Morrissey and Sarah Parish (yep, her again!), who would later guest in
Doctor Who as Jackson Lake and the Empress of the Racnoss, respectively. Although their sizzling on screen chemistry certainly helped! This experimental musical comedy drama aired in 2004 and depicts - through fantasy sequences and various musical numbers, such as
Viva Las Vegas and
Should I Stay Or Should I Go - how the murder of a young man in Blackpool arcade affects the various people involved in the investigation. David stars as DI Peter Carlisle, a charming and good natured police officer, who takes an instant disliking to his colleague, Ripley Holden. The mini-series was received well by critics and was shortlisted for a TV BAFTA before being nominated for Best Miniseries at the Golden Globe Awards. Its success across the pond resulted in CBS adapting it for the US market but the remake was ultimately cancelled after two episodes due to low ratings. Damn. Still, it's worth checking out the original if you haven't already, and then go and buy the soundtrack so you can relive David singing
These Boots Are Made For Walkin' all over again... and on repeat... forever... You won't be sorry.
