9. Superman References - Batman & Robin
While Batman and Superman didn't officially share a cinematic universe together until the DCEU got off the ground, there are hints that the Man of Steel has existed within the world of previous Batman movies.
Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin includes more than one reference to the Last Son of Krypton, most memorably when Bats tells Robin "this is why Superman works alone". You might think this is nothing more than a throw-away reference, but it's actually the first time Supes was ever acknowledged in a Batman movie.
Who knows, if Batman & Robin hadn't been a total abomination, this line of dialogue could have been hugely significant in future sequels and paved the way for a crossover many years earlier than it actually happened.
Schumacher's plan was to make a third film called Batman Triumphant, which sounds better than his previous two. Perhaps if everything had gone to plan, it would have sown seeds for very different team-up to the one Zack Snyder headed up in 2016.
