10 DC Movie Easter Eggs And Setups That Led Nowhere

6. Robin - The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises ended with the revelation that Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake's first name is actually Robin. It was a hat-tip to Batman's comic book history and nothing more, even though some fans chose to take it as confirmation that the police officer went on to become the Boy Wonder after the credits rolled.

This isn't to say DC and Warner Bros should have commissioned a John Blake-fronted Batman movie (although that would certainly be thinking outside of the box), but the Robin reference really was unnecessary, in the sense that it added nothing to the story.

It was already obvious that Blake was essentially the Robin to Nolan's grounded version of Batman, so to reveal that he's literally called 'Robin' right at the end was too on the nose, a forced attempt to present him in a certain light.
