Although it all feels a bit disjointed because a connective scene was deleted from the cinematic cut of the film, Batman v Superman ends with an incarcerated Lex Luthor informing the Dark Knight that he's summoned the forces of Apokolips to Earth.

Luthor isn't always sane, but he's usually a calculating villain, a man with a plan - so it's difficult to fathom what he has to gain from Steppenwolf invading on our world.

Granted, this will cause the metahumans a few problems, but quite obviously the Apokoliptians' arrival spells mass destruction and the potential annihilation of the human race. It's hard to how Lex stands to benefit from the latter.

Perhaps at this moment, Luthor has reached a new level of insanity and now just wants to watch the world burn, not unlike The Joker in The Dark Knight - but is there method to his madness that's yet to be revealed?

Hopefully we'll still get a proper explanation, despite reports that Lex's scenes have been deleted from Justice League.
