10 Dead Comic Book Movies That Need To Be Revived
1. The Sandman - Roger Avery
While the vast majority of films on this list were created by either Marvel or DC (that's the immense power of the leaders in the publishing industry for you), The Sandman comes from somewhere totally different, specifically the mind of the genius writer Neil Gaiman. Gaiman is the novelist responsible for all kinds of terrific works, including American Gods, Coraline and Stardust.
The Sandman tells the story of an ageless, anthropomorphic personification of Dream, an ageless being more powerful than the gods. That in itself should be a clear indicator why the now-defunct adaptation needs to be revived. Its protagonist is unlike any superhero currently being depicted on-screen. Dream is like Doctor Manhattan but turned up to a million.
The project's screenplay was initially written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio of Pirates Of The Caribbean fame, but it was later tinkered with by Roger Avery, after producer Jon Peters claimed to not "get" the story. Avery was fired when he refused to stray too far from the source material.
So then: it's time to bring back The Sandman. After all, Neil Gaiman himself was was very pleased with the work that had gone into the script and the film's overall vision, so clearly something was being done right. It's time to revive it and find out once and for all.
