10 Dead Comic Book Movies That Need To Be Revived
9. Superman Lives - Tim Burton
Not to bang on about Zack Snyder or anything, but he's far from the hero comic book movies needs right now. Man Of Steel and Dawn Of Justice had lukewarm receptions to say the very least, and though the box office results are extremely good, very few comic book fans are actually happy with the product on-screen.
Watching Henry Cavill's Superman, it's hard not to be reminded of the defunct Tim Burton Superman film from the nineties titled Superman Lives. Superman Lives was to star Nicholas Cage as the titular hero, with villains like Lex Luthor, Doomsday and Braniac all set to appear in some shape or form.
The reason why it desperately needs to be revived is simple: DC superhero adaptations need a major shake up. The fact is, they just don't have very much personality. Zack Snyder is a serviceable director, but his films lack any sort of definable quality. His "style" is dominated by muddy CGI and prolonged slow-motion sequences.
Giving a director with as clear a vision as Tim Burton another shot at a superhero films could be massively successful, especially given how much the landscape of superhero films has changed. Say what you want about Batman and Batman Returns, but those films are memorable as hell, with way more personality than the version of Superman we're currently seeing on-screen. Does it need to star Nicolas Cage? No, not necessarily. It's whose directing that's really important.
