10 Dead Movie Franchises That Hollywood Must Revive

If there’s any eighties comedy that needs a revisit, it’s the non-stop gag machine that is the Airplane movies.

With the comedy kings of today’s box office called in and the right script, Airplane could easily become 2018’s sleeper hit. They key to the success of the original movies was simply to go completely beyond what was reasonable: hence we had a joke in practically every line of the script, and set-pieces that were so over-the-top that you couldn’t help but go all-in right along with them.

A frenetic pace like that gives audiences a great hit rate to work with: if gag A doesn’t fly, then relax, because gag B and gag C are already on their way. Couple that with some key casting - Will Arnett’s deadpan gravelly voice and Alec Baldwin’s twinkling psuedo-gravitas spring immediately to mind - and you’ve got yourself a perfect new instalment in the greatest parody franchise in cinema history, surely?

Damn right you have. And don’t call me Shirley.
